Asia
has become a magnet for private-equity firms, which have raised
billions of dollars to invest in the region. Asian private
equity attracted US$6.5 billion in 2004, the highest amount
since 2001, according to Centre for Asia Private Equity Research
Ltd. Japan held on to its position as the largest private equity
market, taking up 76.6 percent of the year's investment,
followed by China attracting $1.3bn and India at $1.1bn.
Moreover, according to the NVCA, over the next 5 years 20% of US
VCs said they are interested in investing in China, and 18% are
interested in India!
